Fuller and King shine in December
Windward players traveled to Winter Nationals in Arizona. Kate
Fuller produced a great week of tennis. After reaching the quarter
finals she upset #2 seed Lily Kimball fighting off 2 match points.
She then faced Courtney Dolehide, who had beaten her two weeks prior.
After losing the first 6-0, Kate made another great fight back,
winning 6-3 in the 3rd. That set up her first singles national championship
final after several 3rd place finishes in the past. She was beaten
in three sets in the final by #1 seed Hannah Mar. Runner up in a
national championship, an awesome result.
In the 14’s, Hannah King had a top 10 finish winning 6 matches.
Laura Patterson won 3 singles matches and also reached the quarterfinals
of doubles. Abigail Owens won 4 matches in singles and had a great
result in doubles finishing in 4th place.
Hannah’s winter national result came on the back of a fantastic
week at the Orange Bowl. The Orange bowl is the biggest tournament
in the world for 14 year olds. After coming through a tough qualifying
draw, she won three main draw matches, including a big win over
9th seed, Brazil’s number 1 player, Carla Forte.
Congratulations to all Windward players that competed in Winter
Nationals.
Toys for Tots
On December 13th, Windward Academy once again held
our Annual Toys for Tots Parent / Child Round Robin. The weather
cooperated, and 36 young tennis players and their parents enjoyed
tennis, hot coco, and hot cider. Each of these participants donated
to the Toys for Tots program, giving us a nice contribution to
provide to the local charity. Thanks go out to all who participated
in Toys for Tots this past weekend; your generosity has helped
make many childrens' Christmas brighter.
Windward Academy teams up with High Tech Tennis
Windward Academy is pleased to announce the incorporation of
the regions leading video analysis company into our sessions.
They have already filmed many of our groups and the feedback has
been outstanding. Video analysis is a tremendous learning tool.
In academy sessions, Windward students can see their strokes,
and use this feedback to adjust technique or reinforce good habits.
Video analysis is also very important to improve match play.
Students can see if they are implementing their game-plan and
if there are changes they should have made to it. They can also
see if their technique is remaining strong. Their perception of
how they played and what they did is often very different after
they watch the match. High Tech Tennis is at many of the major
tournaments in the region. Parents, think about having them video
a match for you.
