Cannon Campbell
Tennis Director/Owner

Cannon Campbell is a USPTA P1 certified professional, an owner of Windward Lake Club and Director of Windward Tennis Academy. With more than twenty-six years of tennis experience as both a player and a coach, Cannon has excelled as a nationally ranked junior and a nationally recognized junior tennis instructor. Working with more than 150 state, southern, nationally, and internationally ranked players Cannon specializes in the development of elite junior players.
As a junior player, Cannon was a four time member of the Georgia Junior Davis Cup and a twenty-eight time Georgia Junior state champion in singles and doubles. He consistently ranked in the top five in the south in singles and doubles and was the #1 singles player for the 1990 State Champion Walton High school tennis team in Atlanta, Georgia. Cannon trained under Rick Macci at the renowned Rick Macci International Tennis Academy for one year where he learned many drills that he has personalized and implemented into his own tennis program today.

In college, Cannon played at the University of Mississippi and Valdosta State University. He played #1 singles and doubles at VSU and received the honor of freshman of the year for the Gulf Coast Conference. His sophomore year he also received all conference honors. During his junior and senior years he established his own junior tennis program and served as Tennis Director for the city of Valdosta. Cannon graduated from VSU with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications and Public Relations. Cannon is a USTA High Performance certified coach as well as the Southern team coach for 2006 Nike Junior Team National Championships. Some of his current players include: Bradley Cox(145 in the world ITF) University of Kentucky Tennis Team, Henry Darko(250 in the world ATP), Kate Fuller(2007 #5 Girls 16 USTA National Ranking and ITF world ranked junior), Rachael Hart (top 30 Girls 16 USTA National ranking), Allie Robbins and Aryn Greene.

Cannon is a National advisory staff Wilson and Fila sponsored coach. He has also developed a very successful doubles coaching philosophy that he has instituted at Windward Tennis Academy called the “Windward Way." In July 2007 Cannon coached the Boys and Girls 16 Southern Intersectional Team to a National Championship win over Southern California in Shreveport La. In September 2007 Cannon coached the Georgia Junior Davis Cup team to victory for the Boys and Girls 14-18's. He has also has been chosen to coach the Georgia Junior Davis Cup team for 2008.

Lastly, Cannon has been married to his wife Kristin for 13 years and is the proud father of two girls Lawton 7and Ella 4.

Marcus Rutsche
Academy Head Professional

Marcus was a top junior from Sydney, Australia. He received a full scholarship from Div 1 Austin Peay State University, where he competed for four years. He was the team's Most Improved twice, scholar athlete, and was named MVP his senior year as their #1 singles and doubles player. Marcus graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Health and Wellness Promotion and has been teaching tennis since 1996 throughout Australia and the USA. With an impressive resume including coaching at The John Newcombe Tennis Ranch in New Brunfels, Texas and the New Albany Country Club in New Albany, Ohio, Marcus has also worked with Tennis Australia's talent identification program. Most recently he worked as travelling coach for WTA player Kat Bailey. Marcus is fitness Director at Windward Academy and runs the Home school conditioning program. He is USPTA certified (P-1).

Nigel Pugh
Academy Head Professional

Nigel comes to Windward Lake Club from Northern California where he has been a Tennis Director for the last 6 years in private clubs. An active participant in the Norcal Tennis scene Nigel was the East Bay Regional Director for Norcal USPTA in 2007.
Born and raised in Newcastle Australia he played on the National Junior Circuit and achieved top National Junior ranking, played the Junior Australian Open and was a member of the Junior Davis Cup team in 1989. As a Professional 1 USPTA instructor, Nigel Pugh has over 17 years of experience in the tennis industry. He continues his long term commitment to the sport with both players and coaches. Still loving the game Nigel put his efforts into instructing and is a certified instructor with four internationally recognized instructors associations, United States Professional Tennis Association (P1 Level), United States Professional Tennis Registry (Professional Level), Tennis Coaches Australia NSW, Australian professional Tennis Coaches Association. Nigel feels strongly about education and is passionate about the development of instructors, as a result he joined the Tennis Coaches Australia NSW Examiners in 1994 and was a member of the State Board for Regional Tennis of New South Wales Australia. A well-qualified teaching professional Nigel has worked alongside Tony Roche and John Newcombe. In 1995- 96 Nigel toured and mentored Jane Taylor who was ranked 180 in the world on the WTA circuit. He was also the NSW State under 14's boys Head Instructor in 1996. Since being in the US Nigel has worked with top ranked juniors and has four players in Division 1 college players with two on full scholarship. In 2006 he took his 2.5 ladies USTA team to Nationals where they came 4th.

John Brunner
Associate Tennis Professional

John Brunner grew up playing junior tennis in Buffalo, New York. He was a top ten junior player in the USTA Eastern section and played in numerous USTA National tournaments such as the 18 and under Nationals at Kalamazoo, Michigan. He played collegiate tennis at Murray State University helping them to four Ohio Valley Conference team titles, while winning over 100 singles matches. While at Murray State (Division 1), John earned a bachelor’s degree in Business majoring in finance. He has served as the assistant coach at the University of Buffalo and Drake University, as well as the Head Tennis Coach at Niagara University. John has over 20 years of teaching experience and is a USPTR certified professional.

 

Henry Adjei Darko
Touring Professional

Henry was born in Accra, Ghana where he learned to play tennis as a junior. He was consistently ranked in the top of his age group and received a full scholarship to the I.T.F Academy in South Africa. Henry finished top 20 on the I.T.F junior singles world ranking and top 10 in doubles. In 2001 henry made the round of 16 and quarterfinals of doubles at U.S Open juniors, made the semifinals doubles at the Orange Bowl. Henry turned pro in 2004 and named to ghana's Davis cup team. He's been training at Windward and traveling all over the world participating in Futures and Challenger tournaments. He has achieved a career high singles A.T.P ranking 279 and 388 doubles. Since turning pro he has accumulated, in singles 6 future titles, semi-final challenger. In doubles two futures titles and one challenger title and number 1 Davis Cup player for Ghana. Henry helps with windward students when he has a break from his hectic schedule. Windward Tennis Academy has Henry's full support.

Kari Fuller
Associate Tennis Professional

Kari Fuller trained under Cannon Campbell at Windward Lake Club during her years in junior tennis at the state, southern, and national level. As a high school senior, she accepted a scholarship to play for Presbyterian College in Greenville, South Carolina. She had an extremely successful experience there, where she won three South Atlantic Conference Championships and played in three NCAA Tournaments. She was a scholar athlete all four years and was named Captain and MVP of her team her senior year, as well as receiving numerous All-Conference awards throughout her 4 year career. Kari received academic honors when she graduated in May 2008, where she majored in Economics and Business Administration and minored in Spanish. Kari taught at Windward Lake Club during her college years and is now enjoying the opportunity to teach full time.

 

 
 

 

 

Will Wright
Academy Head Professional

Will Wright grew up in Lincoln, England where he was a top ten junior player. Will played collegiate tennis at Jacksonville State University (Division I) and was their #1 singles and doubles player for three years. Will served as the assistant tennis coach for JSU men’s team in 2003 and 2004. They finished 2nd and 1st in their conference during that period reaching the division 1 regionals in 2004 He has seven years experience teaching in Spain, England, and the U.S, and is one of the top junior coaches in the south. Will is a USPTR certified professional and works closely with Cannon in training our elite juniors, currently working with many top southern and national players. In 2006 he coached 6 girls in the top 50 in the nation in their age group.

Clement Darko
Associate Tennis Professional

Clement was born in Accra, Ghana where he learned to play tennis as a junior. He was consistently ranked in the Top 5 Nationally and achieved a top 50 ranking on the International Tennis Federation (ITF) junior circuit. He won two junior doubles tournaments while partnering Leyton Hewitt and played against Sebastien Grosjean, Robert Kendrick, Mariano Zabaleta and a few other touring pro's. In 1998, he was named to Ghana’s Davis Cup team and awarded a tennis scholarship at the world famous John Newcomb Tennis Ranch in Texas. In 2002 Clement began teaching at the All-Court Academy in Marietta, he joined the Windward staff in February 2005. He is a USPTA certified professional. Clement also coaches his brother Henry Adjei Darko, who finished top 20 on the International Tennis Federation (ITF). Henry currently plays on the Professional circuit (ATP) and Davis Cup team for Ghana. Windward Tennis Academy supports Henry in his Professional endeavor.

Staton Helton
Associate Tennis Professional

Staton grew up playing tennis in Blakely, GA. He was the MVP of his high school team, losing only one match in four years. In junior tennis he was top 8 in Georgia and top 40 in the South in singles and was #1 in doubles in Georgia. He played collegiate tennis at Troy State University (Division I) in Troy, Alabama. Staton has been teaching tennis since 2003, having been an assistant pro at Altadena Valley Country Club in Birmingham, Alabama and West Lake Country Club in Augusta, Georgia. Staton is a USPTR certified professional.
