WINDWARD ACADEMY HITS THE NATIONAL SCENE
Windward Academy is excited about our largest participation
in national play to this date. Nine players represented Windward Academy
at the USTA National Open’s held throughout the South. Sites ranged
from Sea Island, SC to Tampa, FL. Taylor Lefton
and Allie Robbins qualified for the Girls
12’s held in Sea Island, SC. Andrew Fish
participated in the Boys 12’s, his first National Open, in Columbus,
GA. Justin Hawkins, Andy Bedenk, Mark Harris, Andrew
Goodwin, Rachael Hart, and Kate Fuller
round out the field of Windward Academy participants.
Taylor Lefton came away with
another National match win in only her second national tournament. This
is a huge accomplishment and promises to lead to more success in all tournament
play.
Kate Fuller, the 3 seed in
Girls 14’s, tore through the field in Tampa, defeating the 4 &
9 seeds, on her way to a Third place finish in singles play. She then
teamed up with Jaime Yapp-Shing to take the Doubles championship.
Rachael Hart traveled to Dothan,
AL as the 3 seed in the Girls 14’s draw. In the Quarterfinals and
Semifinals she defeated two players, whom she had lost to recently, on
her way to being the runner-up. Rachael also received the Sportsmanship
Award.
